Le Marche is a beautiful, unspoiled and relatively undiscovered region of Italy that offers bountiful sun, mountains, lakes, grottos, sea coves and beaches. Located in north-central Italy on the Adriatic seaboard, Le Marche is accessed easily via the international airports at Ancona, Bologna to the north, and Pescara to the south.

Le Marche is renowned for its quintessential medieval hilltop towns and villages, historic remains, and its glorious renaissance architecture. This region is still dominated by agriculture, and being undiscovered by mass tourism offers an insight into real Italian life. This fascinating part of Italy conceals a wealth of art, architecture, museums, castles, forts, Roman antiquities, good food, high-class wines, and offers a wide range of outdoor activities from skiing and horse riding to climbing, walking, mountain biking and paragliding.

Casa Tranquilla, our converted Marchigian yellow-brick farmhouse, enjoys a sunny south-facing aspect just below Loro Piceno in the south of the region.  We are in the province of Ascoli Piceno, not far from the provincial city of Macerata that boasts an annual music festival in August.  Here at Loro Piceno you are within easy reach of the beautiful beaches of the Adriatic and the dramatic Sibillini Mountains, which separate Le Marche from the neighbouring region of Umbria.

Our farmhouse is at the side of a quiet country lane with hardly any traffic, and provides uninterrupted views across the valley to nearby villages. It is set in 15 acres of arable land that is normally planted with wheat or sunflowers. It comes with the obligatory small vineyard that produces the local “vino cotto” speciality (a sweet dessert wine), and a stand of olive trees.
